Gerrit Van Essen immigrated to Canada from Holland. The voyage across the Atlantic is one of his earliest childhood memories. Upon marrying his wife Cathy, he inherited his father-in-law's business and became well established as a plumber. In 1985, God began to draw Gerrit & Cathy's attention to the practical needs of missionaries and called them to gain experience on the mission field themselves through Trans World Radio. In many different capacities the Lord has used the Van Essen family in Canada; the USA; the Dutch-speaking island of Bonaire, off the coast of Venezuela; and Swaziland, Africa. They marvel at the way God shows Himself faithful to guide when they seek Him and His kingdom first. From their home near Peterborough, they continue providing aid to missionaries both at home and abroad, as well as itinerant preaching around Ontario.
