As Adrian Rogers says “No one fell asleep while Jesus was preaching!” His command to love our enemies heralded a revolutionary watershed between two definitions of love. His approach, overcoming evil with good, redefined success in human relationships at every level. And He made it practicable through several specific keys. This command is one of those. It is the command to go the second mile. That is the smile mile, the mastery mile, the charity mile, the victory mile. Here, the caliber of Christ’s living standard distinguished itself from all that was expected by men or required by the law. If having this mindset would catch the attention and respect of Roman soldiers in Jesus’ day, how much more will its freshness and power affect the relationships we have now, at work, at home, and even with the Lord Himself in our quiet time.
