Description
Conclude With a Hymn
Two Gospel accounts of the first communion conclude with a significant statement: “And when they had sung a hymn, they went out into the mount of Olives” (Matthew 26:30 and Mark 14:26). These are the only places in the New Testament where music is spoken of in the context of a “church gathering.” Jesus is the Head of the Church; therefore, the disciples’ singing after Jesus’ teaching and communion illustrate the important concept that music should be a response to the Word rather than a preparation for hearing it.
Music can be an expression of worship by those who are cleansed from their sins and are in fellowship with God and others.
