Day 259 – Bring in the Poor

Description

Be “Given to Hospitality”

Her crisis was real—her husband had passed away, and she was left with a debt that she could not repay. Now the unmerciful creditor was demanding payment, or he would take away her two sons and make them his slaves.

In her desperation, she sought help from the prophet Elisha. When Elisha asked the widow what she had in her house, she replied that she had nothing except a little oil. The prophet told the widow to borrow as many empty containers from the neighbors as she could. Then, she was to take her oil and fill them. As she poured the oil into the containers, the oil continued to flow until the last one was filled. After this, Elisha commanded her to go, sell the oil, and pay her debt. (See II Kings 4:1–7.)
