Day 234 – Be a Servant

Description

Conquer Temptation With a Servant’s Heart

Why was Joseph able to overcome the very same temptation that defeated Solomon, the wisest man; Samson, the strongest man; and David, who had a heart after God? Each of these four men had God-fearing parents, experienced God’s blessing on his life, was tempted while in leadership, and is listed in God’s “Hall of Fame.” (See Hebrews 11.) Yet, only Joseph conquered moral temptation. Why?

Joseph could have used many reasons to justify moral failure. As a slave, he was expected to submit. The Law had not yet been written, so he had never read, “Thou shalt not commit adultery” (Exodus 20:14). He was in a foreign country and subject to a different culture. He did not have the protection of his father or family, and he had been rejected by his older brothers. Plus, he was not the one who initiated the request for an immoral relationship.
