Purpose to be a Sower!
Each time I heard a pastor read II Corinthians 9:7, I assumed that it referred to how much I decided to put in the offering plate that day. “Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.” However, this passage has a far greater application than just one offering. It speaks of a way of life—the dynamic life of the “sower.” The context begins with the laws of the harvest: “He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully” (verse 6). With this background, God invites us to purpose in our hearts to be sowers and determine how great a harvest we want to reap.
